Dinner conversations

We are fortunate in the Spirited household that I work half day. Dudie and I get home anywhere between 13:00 – 15:00, depending on the extra mural activities for the day. EXCEPT on Fridays. We do not compromise our FRIDAY! We have no extra murals and all shopping excursions is left for any day of the week EXCEPT Friday!

Granted Dudie and I are home early during the day and generally Dude is home by 16:00 everyday. We get to have to have a family dinner roughly 18:00 -18:30, you know those ones we see on TV and think fcuk how do they eat that early everyday…well half day JOB = early family dinner time

Our dinner time conversations are roughly about catching up on each other’s day and reminding one another to look at our “schedules” on the board. I am OCD with schedules and lists…I don’t like MAJOR surprises or curveballs. I like to plan and know what’s happening. On most nights this is how it goes…

(This is how it plays off in Dude’s mind)

Me: blah blah blah…so the other kid at swimming blah

Dudie: (interrupts whilst I am still talking) Daddy can I tell you something? Blah blah Blah

Dude: Stares blankly and says WHOA one at a time.

My Dude basically has a hissy fit because we are talking simultaneously. Well let me just add that Dudie sometimes forget to wait until someone is done speaking before going off on a tangent with his own story. That boy will sometimes ask and answer the very question he has just posed to you.

I want to die everytime I have to repeat myself cos who listens to the mom/wife anyway? Dude is so guilty of this. he will literally look me in the eye and “listen” but 5 minutes later asked me  to repeat what I said cos he didn’t hear me….

Our dinner conversations are filled with fun and laughter but sometimes we prefer to have some quiet time too. BUt the other night the boys were cracking jokes. I moaned  the resident alien is super busy and kicking the daylights out of me. Dudie comes to check and gets a kick on the hand. I said everytime the resident alien moves I poke him. Dudie pipes up: So poke him! I snort laughed and sprayed them and the spinach rolls with coffee….which was in my mouth. I did apologise because being pregnant I constantly need to pee and a laugh/sneeze can make me pee my pants #pregnancyjoys Unfortunately for them I sprayed the coffee, fortunately for me I managed to hold my pee.

Oh and NO, there is still NO baby. This boy is making keeping us in suspense. Last week Wednesday, Dr was convinced things are happening, I.e. My cervix is softening and I was 1-2cm dialated. yesterday I walked around at Monte Casino. BUT NOTHING!!!

I will see the Dr later today and we will figure out what is happening with this boy.

merit

Last night Dudie received a certificate at his prize giving…drum roll..for MERITORIOUS ACHIEVEMENT IN MATHEMATICS in Grade 1. Whoa! this kid only told us that we needed to attend and that he will be getting a certificate. No clue what for. Nada. He was mute about it. He is such a modest child. We are SUPER proud of him. Of course we had to celebrate and at his request for Sushi, we tried out the newly revamped Ocean Basket @MenlynPark. Wow, lovely. We will be back soon. We were a bit stuffed so we agreed that we could do a special dessert over the weekend.

The other night, I was getting so hot so I woke Dude in the wee hours of the morning to ask him to switch on the aircon. He happily obliged, switched the aircon on and went back to sleep. The next morning he says “WTF, why did you wake me to put the aircon on?” My response – The remote is on your side… He says he’s going to put a glass of water on my side and wake me during the night for a drink…

We are torn between slaving away behind the stove to cook Christmas lunch or whether to dine out this year. For us it is the preparation rather than the actual eating of the meal that is our festive spirit!

We only have 10 weeks left before we are a family of four. Mom, Dad, Dudie and the resident alien. Need to give him a spirited name as he cannot be the resident alien forever.

Today is the 1st of December. Tonight we haul out the Christmas tree and transform our home into a festive place. We will be indulging in chocolate and of course Christmas carols. The countdown to Christmas has finally begun, even though I have not done any Christmas shopping. We have been very pre-occupied with the resident alien but even his nursery isn’t done. I haven’t bought everything that I need or want…

Oh, and I still haven’t packed our hospital bags.

My pet peeve for December – Dude wants to go away for an impromptu weekend. In December! He does this every year and every year I say well then YOU find a place to go to because people book a December getaway a year in advance. Any suggestions? Will have to be in Gauteng though as I don’t want to venture too far from my Doctor or hospital.

Here’s to 2016 Festivities!

Random ramblings

It’s FRIDAY!!!! Whoohoooooo

Well in Spiritville this week surely took its own damn time. Even though we had a mini break on Wednesday as it was Voter’s Day ( I sincerely hope you made your mark as I did – your vote will only matter if you vote. Period. End of Story. I die a small death every time I hear someone say “my vote doesn’t matter so I why bother”. It is because of such attitudes that we miss the plot and that our RAND plummets every time there is anything remotely political being publicized.)

It’s been cold and warm in the same week, I think I even felt it on the same day too. Just love Pretoria Winters. But it does mess with your wardrobe a bit as you are not sure what would be appropriate attire. Well LAYERING is all that I can say…

On my drive in to the office this morning I realised that I really can’t imagine having weetbix for breakfast. I would much rather prefer some cooked oats. Well I didn’t have the luxury of time (for breakfast) this morning although I did manage to wash and dry my hair in record time, I made a quick pitstop at KFC. I was going to get the oats but then I couldn’t find it on the menu. However, the A.M. Riser caught my eye and that is what I got. Best R21.90 ever spent.

Oh how I miss my coffee. Decaf is just not cutting it for me. It didn’t do the trick when I was with child almost 7 years ago and it’s definitely not cutting right now either. I have done the hot chocolate, hot milo, cold milo, tea etc…but I JUST CAN’T GET OVER MY COFFEE….

Have a great FRIDAY.

P.S. I have an official viewing of our Resident Alien later today. We will be taking Dudie along this time. That boy is so excited to see the baby.

Confused, Consumed, Constricted…

So I’ve been AWOL for a while…and from my last post just to say that I’m still here in the blogosphere but I’m just taking a bit of a “break” it seems I have extended that break.  I think I’m suffering from writers block.  Seriously…I have loads of topics to blog about.  All real life heart and gut wretching experiences/events in Spiritville but I guess I’ve been battling to transfer these experiences into blog posts.  Maybe it’s a good thing as I do think some things are just left unsaid and I can safely say that I’ve been in a bit ok wayyyy more than a bit of an PMS/IBS mood .

Dude and I have been in a odd space too.  Sort of like we were not connecting?   He’s under a lot of stress due to work, and Murphy is not far behind with all kinds of fun dilemmas, i.e. me/dudie/traffic/the dogs/finances/family/his mom… you know normal stuff. Hehehe… I’ve had my fair share thanks to Murphy!  For the record we’re still not speaking to his Mom since the incident… Not even sure if I blogged about it but let’s just say that it was a deal breaker and definitely not something that would blow over.

It’s sad because Dudie doesn’t even want to talk to her when she calls so on average 1 out of 10 times she calls he’ll speak to her.  And I can bet on the fact that she blames us for him choosing NOT to speak to her.  We have made a conscious effort to raise Dudie differently from how we were raised.  If our parents were upset with a family member the entire family was kept away from that person.  We decided that Dudie has no issues with anyone so we will take him to see whomever he wants.  We will not deprive him from having relationships with his extended family.

I’ve been so busy even though I only work half day it is truly unbelievable how busy my days can be. At work and at home.  That other half is always occupied with something.  In the last week Dude has been working shifts so I was Mom & Dad as we only saw Dad in the morning really and he was sleeping when we left so we literally only said goodbye each morning.

I think it’s because I’ve been so all over the show that I feel that I somehow have not been managing my time well.  I just want to come home and crawl into bed at 1pm in the day!

I want to eat cupcakes and cakes and tarts and sweet desserts ALL the time!!! And before you ask, NO I’m not pregnant.  Not really sure WTH is happening….So for now I’m stuffing my face and kinda feeling sorry for myself because I can feel that cupcake on my @$$….But tomorrow I will swim an extra lap just to justify that treat…

Oh and did I mention that one of our dogs is at the animal hospital?  Mystery diagnosis? Mystery bill coming soon!!!!  We just took our latest edition to the Doctor for her monthly vaccines.  R330 later.  I’ve really forgotten how expensive a puppy can be!

Donations are welcome J  Half day job = half a salary. LOKL…that took some getting used to.  Sometimes I still have a scream into my pillow when that sms comes in from the bank.  I console myself with some chocolate! Chocolate fixes everything.

Happy Friday all.

Still here….

Hello

Whilst ET tried to call home, I wonder what he would do with all the technology of today, I’ve been working halfday, baking and cooking like Masterchef and really just enjoying my “free”time.

Technically, it’s not free time as the half of the day when I’m done at work is already filled with various activities but that’s life i suppose.  We’ve been indulging in our family time and spend more quality time together.  Can’t wait for Summer to hit the pool, or in my case swim off the extra weight….I pray it works.

The cooking and baking is definitely evident in my entire household, we all bought new clothes.  Need to make healthier variations.

I’m not even going to attempt catching up with my reader ‘cos its just not going to happen.

On that note, I’m less stressed at work.  Just when I do want to throw a Tantrum it’s time to go home.

Anybody in Pretoria want to have a cold one, let me know! Spiritedmamablog@gmail.coM tea/coffee/wine/beer/etc

for now let me watch Dudie swim, he’s just completed level 4!!!! And he dives! I can’t dive to save my life… Well done Dudie!

hope all is well with everyone

Observations in my home

I started this week on such a high, I was planning to just chillax… If you haven’t yet done so read about it here.

Sadly, that dream was shortlived!!!!! As I had back to back meetings and all kids of emergencies not long after I published that post… (Murphy!!!! Eff off)

So, today it occurred to me that certain things are happening, and in the throes of life we get so busy that things go unnoticed…. But as I’ve decided to make an effort to take in my environment, this is what I’ve observed:

1. Conversations take place whilst I’m in the lavatory! (Dude & Dudie always have something to tell me when I’m in the lavatory… I’m not kidding. I’ve mentioned this to them and Dudie cried crocodile tears cos I don’t want to leave the door open and he wants to see me. After Dude explained that it’s my decision to close the door and he should respect that, he now just comes to knock or randomly screams… Are you ok mamma?)

2. Dudie breaks every single crayon in half before he uses them. Even the brand new ones that just came out of the box… Sigh… I have no idea why he does this.

3. Dude is decluttering….. his stuff that’s standing around anyway so it makes sense… He feels that he can’t handle all the stuff being everywhere. But it is in fact him who put it there/left it there/or decided to not put it away…

4. These days we eat more vegetables than before.

5. We eat less junk food/snacks/take aways.

6. You can feel the holiday spirit! Whoop Whoop

7. Alcoholic beverages are increasing. ( After Dudie went to bed on Saturday, Dude & I had a mini shooter party at home 🙂 I did feel like crap when Dudie woke us on Sunday, 6:45am, to say “wake up guys. Let’s go to Church!” So we eventually got to church, very late, but we made it. And had a KFC drive thru breakfast on the way home.)

8. I’m constantly looking for deals/specials/shopping trips…. I feel like shopping ALL the time

9. I bought some Sloggi undies and man oh man it feels like liquid silk on my @$$. LOL. It really does wonders when you wear new undies. Well fr me, at least.

10. Dudie wrote a letter to Santa. Well I wrote it for him. He had a long list of really inexpensive gifts so I guess I’ll indulge him. (We wrote the letter after he had a meltdown in Makro over some stupid watergun thing. I do believe that we have more than enough of those but my child seems to think otherwise. So I suggested a letter to Santa. All smiles by the time we left Makro. ) Oh one of the items that Santa has to bring is Ferrero Rocher chocolates. My kid loves chocolate just like me 🙂

Have a great day. I’m counting the last working days…

Observations…..

It’s been extremely busy in Spiritville. With the Dude being man down with a tummy bug since Sunday eve and the Dudie being his ever so charming self…. I’ve been studying and well, cooking… Cos I love food. No really, I looove good food……

So here’s my observations, in no particular order:

1. I commute on the Gautrain daily. Love it just one small problem – we really could use more stairs/escalators/lifts at ALL stations. There just isn’t enough!

2. When walking up said stairs/escalators – your face is arse level with the person ahead of you. Now, that definitely doesn’t go down well with my empty stomach!

3. As a regular commuter, you get to know some other regulars on the train. Like ‘Etiket Girl”, as in etiquette. She insists on speaking English, and quite loudly, but really is a proper Afrikaans girl. Even her friend responds in Afrikaans but she just carries on. “This is my morning dose of Etiquette”. I dubbed her “Etiket Girl” cos Dude said that it’s her Gautrain Etiquette to speak English…

4. Biker chick – she’s small with wild red hair and seemingly odd… Well I guess most people would say that I’m odd but this is my observation, remember…. She always has a few bags to cart around too. Makes me wonder where she puts this stuff considering she’s riding a bike?

5. The ever so chic- elegantly dressed business man – with fake labels and all – Need I say more!

6. The Soccer Star – filled to the brim with gadgets and techno stuff…. And singing and dancing on the train whilst reading his book, and checking his IPAD….

7. From the train station, I catch a bus to work – Here you have a lady called “Ous Maggie” who’s selling scones/vetkoek/cake/etc… Well, she saw the opportunity and hell by the time we get to her stop- her stuff is sold out.

And that’s it for now… I like watching people. Oh by the way, there’s a noisy group on the train daily, in the afternoons. But lately I told the group I’m travelling with that we seem to be even noisier than them. LOL

P.S. This mornings conversation with Dudie:

Dudie: Where’s Daddy going?

Me: Daddy’s going to the Doctor ‘cos he’s sick.

Dudie: ….Pause… No Daddy not go to Doctor. Daddy just need to go toilet.

This child of mine. Tells it like it is…
